These espresso pods produce a good taste and nice crema from my basic espresso maker. The only slight problem is they don't exactly fit in the e.s.e. pod holder of my machine so I balance them on top of the holder before installing to brew. I haven't had this trouble with any other brand...and I've tried every brand in the sampler bag from podmerchant.

This product is a great thing for anyone who loves espresso, and wants to make it at home. There's no grinding, no mess, no tamping, or anything else that makes the science of great espresso so challenging. The only downside to using these is that you need to purchase a machine capable of using them. We have one, and it's a beautiful machine (the Francis Francis X1) but it cost close to $1000. If you enjoy espresso a lot, the machine will pay itself back compared to trips to Starbucks or your local coffee shop every day. If you are an infrequent consumer, you may want to look at a less expensive option. Nonetheless, these pods are fantastic, and the coffee is exquisite.

The ESE system is wonderful and the Illy coffee is amazing. I can pull a decent shot of espresso anytime I want, especially during mornings when I can barely get out of bed. Instead of having to blend, grind, pull, taste, wash, scrub, repeat; all I have to do is put the pod in the portafilter, pull the shot and enjoy. The entire process takes less than 40 seconds and allows me the espresso experience without all the barista duties.

Just remember to pull a blank shot before the first shot and after the last!

If you're looking for a good, and mess free way to enjoy espresso at home, then I highly recommend Illy ESE pods! I use the Illy medium-roast pods with my Briel Multi Pro Espresso machine. The pair produces such good tasting, Italian cafe- style espresso everytime! It is not bitter nor acidic. The sampler is a great idea. But, be prepared--some of the pods are awful. Since, they only ship two of each flavor, you couldn't pull a double shot and then share it with anyone for comparison. Sometimes, I like to sit and taste expresso with a friend--almost like a wine tasting with espresso. Also, the shipping cost was really high! It is an interesting way to try different brands, but keep careful notes.

Although I normally grind up beans and make espresso, I bought some of these pods for when I'm in a rush to get out of the door. I have used Illy espresso pods before with great results, but these pods were a huge dissapointment. I tried six pods out of the bag when I first got the pod pack(since there is a random mix of all different types). Each cup was really poor. The pods themselves are packed very loosley, so that the espresso ends up super weak and tastes like a bad bitter cup of coffee. When I saw these I thought "What a deal!" You are much better off spending the extra money for the Illy, or grinding up your own beans.

I've purchased this assortment three times now and love the quality, quantity, and variety. It's an excellent value and I much prefer brewing pods vs. grounds. The consistency of the pods is so much greater than grounds (especially with low-end consumer grinders and espresso machines) and the speed and convenience make it a no-brainer. Using pods and a sampler pack like this is like trying a different coffee shop every day.

I am relatively new to the home brewed espresso machines. After some trial and error I have found ground (no I don't grind my own, yet) espresso that I really like. I have been buying the Illy pods at the local Bed Bath & Beyond, with the 20% coupons they are a great deal.

I happened across this E.S.E. pod assortment while I was looking at new espresso machines. (I wound up buying a Breville) I really love all the varieties. It seemed, when I was trying the different brands each one was better than the previous. I think that my favorite in this assortment are the Lucafe pods. The artwork on the pack is very 20's and the espresso is outstanding. All the pods were fresh, they have dates stamped on the package. I have ordered multiple times since my first purchase and have signed up for the PodMerchant newsletter, which includes a discount code.

This assortment is all blended coffee, that is, mostly Arabica with some Robusta. I didn't know what that meant, either, but do now. PodMerchant also offers assortments of 100% Arabica, and even Lucafe assortments (just bought one - I was not disappointed)

If you've never used the pod adapter that came with your machine, time to order this variety pack and find that pods can be better than ground! And less time to coffee!

I expected better from Lavazza having been introduced to it in Rome last year. In perspective, I usually grind my espresso beans (Brazil Sweet Blue is my favorite) immediately before brewing and I always buy beans that have been roasted no more than 1 week ago. This obviously skew my taste toward fresh product and these pods are definitely not that. Convenient, though.

I like these and both of the Espressione (classic & 100% arabica) E.S.E. pods. Have had some bad luck with other pods (Baronet in particular). These are very consistent in the espresso that they make and have excellent crema. And they're the least expensive that I could find on amazon or locally, so I'd recommend them pretty well. Grinding my own coffee (and having roasted it as well), I sometimes make a better espresso than the pods. But not everytime if I don't get the grounds tamped just right. 150 pods should last you a week. At least!

I had a chance to test these ese pods when I received two of them with my new Handpresso wild. I used one with the Handpresso and one with my Hamilton Beach espresso maker. Both tasted heavenly, smooth with no bitterness. I got more Crema with the Handpresso but the Hamilton Beach made it warmer. Well I can now save some money as I used to use My Francis X8 with Illy capsules. Each Illy capsule costs 75 cents a piece even if you buy 4 cans ( 21 capsule in each ) at a time while the Lavazza pod costs 33-35 cents if you buy 150 pods at a time. You get more Crema with Illy but the taste is similar or a little below the Lavazza. Now my next step is to get some Illy fine ground coffee with a good tamper and use it with my Hamilton Beach, it will cost much less than the capsules. By the way, I am not trying to be cheap. I spent a lot of money on expensive espresso machine above $1000 and got convinced not to waste more money anymore. They may make slightly? better espresso but with repair and maintenance they cost you more than daily visits to Starbucks or other Coffee shops. I believe this is the most economical way to enjoy a decent cup of espresso or cappuccino. If you want to make the ultimate cup of espresso get yourself a manual Quickmill Anita or a Pavoni with expensive grinder and practice different grinds and become an artist. True it needs a lot of work but is better and cheaper than going for the super automatic junk machines they sell nowadays with $1000-3000 each. By the way those expensive one button machines do not make better espresso than the non automatic ones. Please believe me. It comes from experience.

I use these in my Francis Francis machine and they are pretty good. Very easy, no mess, easy cleanup. Once in a while I get a bad pod that isn't fully compressed. The main issue though is that these are often quite expired (I generally purchase them instore) so WATCH those expiration dates. It does make a big difference. Not as good as grinding your own, but just as good as the Illy ese pods at a fraction of the price(about 42cents per pod for Starbucks versus 67cents per pod for Illy) without any mess or hassle.
